The Lady Otters lost to their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals 74-67 in the Kelp Bed on Feb. 8.

The CSU Stanislaus (CSUS) Warriors came out of the gates early and pressed the Otters, and CSU Monterey Bay (CSUMB) did their best to counter the pressure. Dana Andrews, a guard and Business junior had nearly 20 points in the first half. Andrews contributed over half of the Lady Otters points, helping to keep them in the game at the half.

Coming back onto the court down 39-36 after the intermission Britnea Moore, a guard and Human Communication senior took over the game for the Otters, scoring at will against CSUS. This allowed the Otters to take the lead with nine minutes to go in the second half. From there the lead went back and forth, neither team able to create a double digit lead.

Krista Herr, a forward and Social and Behavioral Sciences senior then got her forth foul and was benched, taking away the tallest player and main rebound getter on the team. The Otters had few rebounds on the night as it was, and foul trouble sealed their fate. In the closing minutes coach Amber Magner received a technical foul and the Otters lost their momentum despite Andrews and Moore having over 20 points each on the night.

"They played really, really hard but they took too long to turn it on," said Phil Houston, a student assistant coach. "They have to be intense to start off and keep that energy up."

This is loss number 20 for the Lady Otters during their current campaign, who hope their next game will be a win.

"I think we played pretty well," said Mikeshaya Edwards, a guard and Kinesiology junior who has been injured for most of the season. "If we take out our anger on our next opponents then we could probably get a win."
