After having broken a 17 game losing streak the Lady Otters have not been able to gain another win after two contests, this time losing to San Francisco State University (SFSU) gators 95-79 at the Kelp Bed on Feb 27.

The Lady Otters have not had an ideal season under any circumstances, having only won two games in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The team has only found major offensive output this season from two players, Alma Lopez, a guard and Liberal Studies senior and Dana Andrews, a forward and Business junior.

This night it looked in the first 10 minutes as though things might have gone the other way for a change. Lopez came out onto the court sporting a corn rowed mohawk for her birthday and gave the Otters an early spark. The Otters found themselves down by only one with 11:54 left in the first half. However after that point the game began to slip away from the Otters. Only a few minutes later the home side found themselves down by 10 points.

"We need to have more scoring from the rest of the team," said an animated Coach Amber Magner. "We need to be stronger and want it more."

The second half was more of the same for the Otters, as they found themselves down by 33 points with 15:20 left in the second half. It was the greatest lead that SFSU was able to achieve over the course of the game, as the Otters began to make a comeback against the bench players of San Francisco. The Energy on the floor was low throughout the game and was no help to the Otter’s defense.

"Piss poor defense," said Magner. "Winners are not created by slogans, you must have the heart and desire, and put in the work."

One Otter who managed to do that was Lopez, who had 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

"I feel good because I did well, but I feel bad because the team didn't," said Lopez. "We didn't press when we should have been doing that the whole game."
