“La Petite Mort,” “Beautiful Agony,” coming, going!! It’s that tiny moment of

pleasure that makes this world go round, and in the spirit of finishing off well I am

devoting my last column to orgasms.

Orgasms have been described, in “The One-Hour Orgasm” by Bob and Leah

Schwartz, Ph.D.’s, as “an intense, pleasurable response to genital stimulation.”

What’s left out in that description is the pure, raw, unadulterated power of

orgasms; they have been linked to keeping dysfunctional couples together, might

be responsible for world peace one day, and greatly increase the chances of

spawning offspring.

According to Ray Sahelian, M.D. stated on the website www.raysahelian.com/

oxytocin.html, that oxytocin, the chemical that bonds people together, is released

during orgasm. The website also stated that oxytocin increases, “pain thresholds,

has anti anxiety effects, and stimulates various types of positive social interaction.

In addition, oxytocin promotes growth and healing.”

Some, like Donna Sheehan and Paul Reffell who co-organized “Global Orgasm

Day,” believe that a simultaneous global orgasm could possibly lead to world

peace. The plan for the day is that at the same moment everyone in the world

would orgasm thinking of peace, in order to elicit a “positive change in the energy

field of the Earth.” The global day was based on research conducted by the Global

Consciousness Project, a group of scientists collecting data to register coherence and

resonance in the world.

The female orgasm also has the added benefit, for evolutionary purposes, of

sucking the sperm towards the egg and fallopian tube according to the “Men’s

Health” section of About.com. Orgasms also cause uterine contractions and an

up and down movement of the cervix, both of which help sperm make its way

to the egg.

To feel the power of orgasms yourself  Discovery Health offers a few tips in their

informative article, “How to Achieve Orgasm During Intercourse.” According to the

article the missionary position with full pelvic tilt, the woman on top, strengthening

the grip, keeping legs together, and stimulating the cervix (this last one, I would

personally opt against). With time, relaxation, and the right atmosphere orgasms can

be within your reach.

And with this last touching moment together, I leave you with my final words

taken from Schopenhaur: “The desire for intercourse is the genius of the genus.”
