Advertising Policy for The Otter Realm

All ads submitted to The Otter Realm are subject to approval.
The Otter Realm reserves the right to limit or decline ads based on content, design and the anticipated demand for news/editorial space.
The Otter Realm reserves the right to refuse advertising which has obscene, sexist, racist, or other content deemed inappropriate by the editor in chief and advertising director.
Publication of an advertisement does not constitute an agreement for continued publication.
All editorial and business decisions are made by students, without any interference from the University.
The Otter Realm staff has the right to access information concerning advertisements published in the newspaper. For example, who paid for the advertisement, how much was paid and on what date the advertisement was purchased.
There will be no advertising that disagrees with the guidelines set forth by The Otter Realm, if there is an issue concerning advertising it shall be discussed and decided upon by the editor in chief and advertising director.
Advertisement Content guidelines:
The Otter Realm has the right to exclude any advertisement if it is illegal or in bad taste.
Advertising in The Otter Realm must:
There will be no alcohol advertising of any kind. The Otter Realm is easily accessible to persons under the age of 21. Ads concerning events at bars may be accepted upon discussion of editor in chief, advertising director and staff members of The Otter Realm. Basic guidelines shall be set up concerning this issue. Until then, no alcohol advertising published in The Otter Realm.
There will be no advertising promoting the sale or use of tobacco products. The Otter Realm is a free newspaper and is easily accessible to persons under the age of 18.
Advertising that resembles editorial pieces must be marked Advertisement Advertising simulating editorial content must run with the words "Paid Advertisement" in 10 point or larger typeface.
Political advertisements will be decided on at a later time, with opinions and ideas developed by The Otter Realm staff, so far this guideline shall be followed unless the editor in chief and advertising director do not agree to these following guidelines or agree that no political advertising shall be published by The Otter Realm.
Position and Liability:
Every effort is made to honor position requests but position of advertisements is not guaranteed. No adjustment, rerun or refund will be made because of position. Special placement cannot be guaranteed. Requests are honored when possible.
Every effort is made to avoid errors. The Otter Realm shall be liable for any error in any advertisement caused by its own negligence only to the extent of republishing in the next regular issue the item in which the error occurred and in space not exceeding that occupied by the item on its first publication.
Advertisers should read their advertisement the first day it appears and report errors within three days of said publication. The Otter Realm is only responsible for the first incorrect advertisement. No allowance will be made for more than one incorrect advertisement. Minor spelling errors will not qualify as an incorrect advertisement and The Otter Realm will not reimburse for spelling errors.
