If you have never played Intramural sports at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), I suggest you sign up now. CSUMB’s Intramural Sports program provides CSUMB students, faculty, staff, and alumni the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports. The mission of intramural sports is to create memories for students and staff through diversity, recreation, competition, and flat out fun. In recent years, the number of participants in intramural sports has sky rocketed, mainly due to the hunger for competition and the need for teamwork.
Taylor Aja, Senior, is a participant in intramural basketball and said, “I just love the competition, me being out there having fun with my teammates playing the game we love, it’s a get-away from all this school crap.”
Shannon Ridell, senior, agrees with Aja, “I participate in intramural sports because I love to play sports as well as get-away from the whole school thing a couple nights a week,” said Ridell. “I’m participating in three different sports this semester: bowling, basketball, and softball. I enjoy going out and exercising while seeing friends I normally do not see when I am studying for my classes.”
According to Jordan Barry, Intramural Marketing and Softball Supervisor, Intramural sports offer Softball and Volleyball on Sundays, Basketball on Mondays, Soccer on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Bowling every other Wednesday night. They also offer tournaments on Fridays and Saturdays. The most popular of them, is indoor soccer.
Soccer has so many student participants that it is the only intramural sport played two days a week. I have been playing intramural basketball for the past four years, and it is a great experience. There are lots of friendly faces inside the gym, that are willing to help, encourage, and share laughs with, making this program worthwhile.
Student Seana Fenske gives her reason on why students should participate in intramural sports “DO IT!!! It’s a great way to meet new people and get involved in a sports oriented community. Plus it’s a chance to get out and do something physical after sitting in class all day. So worth doing! This semester, I’m really wishing I had more time to play intramurals.”
Also, student TJ Scott gave his reasoning on why he loves to play intramural sports, “I recommend giving it a try and having fun. It is a great way to meet new people and have some good clean fun. In CSUMB Intramurals, everyone is a winner.”
Indeed everyone is a winner, this is a league based on fun and excitement so if students are able to find the time in their schedule, this is highly recommended. Students will have an opportunity to not only learn the game of their choice, but have a chance to develop into the ultimate sportsman. Your love of sports, excitement, fun, and competition should lead you right to the CSUMB website where you can click on intramural sports and begin your sign up. The question is, are you ready?
