Student Video Shows Student Opinion about Tuition

A student makes his appeal

Students at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) are being inundated with final papers, exams, and projects. Most have the purpose of only getting a student a final grade while others have higher social purposes.

In Professor Meghan K. O’Donnell’s HCOM 267 U.S. Political Histories class, students Esau Hernandez, Pavan Gill, Veronica Cotter, Jasmin Saints, and Shiyla Goodie were required to make a video raising awareness over an issue. This group of students chose to make a video project, as Esau Hernandez, sophomore, KIN stated, “…to raise awareness about rising tuition in CSU’s.”

Hernandez said for the execution of the project his group, “…made a rant video that we posted on YouTube and made a Facebook page ‘Fight Tuition Increases’ so everyone can see.”

Along with their plan of execution, the group of students plan on sending their video to the board of trustees so they can make a bigger statement.

Tuition has steadily increased in colleges across the country and the California State University (CSU) system is no exception. This student group wants to make a statement they feel will be the first step in showing the authorities in the CSU-system the current student position on tuition increases.

The student made video includes mostly student opinion from students at CSUMB. Some staff and faculty are included in the video in order to show university-wide support for their cause.
