CSUMB Food Service Doesn’t Stack Up
Miriam Olivares, Staff Reporter
An overabundance of natural juices, cereal dispensers, Mexican food that tastes like real Mexican food? Of course I’m not talking about CSUMB’s dining commons on campus, I’m talking about (food service provider name) this provider prides itself in, having the most nutritional food choices possible for their students while remaining socially conscious in every sense of the phrase. All of the food, water, and juices are made from organic fair trade ingredients. “I think this food service provider is great because not only are all the ingredients organic but it elevates consciousness within students” (Mauricio Macias UCSC senior)
Personally, after eating at UC-Santa Cruz dining commons, (one of the many campus’ where ? calls home) I was left speechless. The pizza is surprisingly not greasy unlike some that I have tasted before; the fountain drinks are wide selections of juices ranging from traditional orange to exotic guava. The pasta is delicious, the Mexican food is exquisite, I say this because I am Mexican and the so-called Mexican food on our campus insults me. The beans are creamy; the guacamole has real chunks of avocado, tomatoes, and jalapenos. The salads are juicy; the vegetables are tasty and crunchy, not rubbery and spoiled. The chicken is moist, and just a dream. Also the hugest plus of the options this service provider gives is the vegetarian options. Every food choice has an option for our friends the vegetarians. Overall on a scale from 1-5 this service provider get a 5 where as our service provider gets a 2 and a 1/2.
Hungry yet? Aren’t you tired of having the same cardboard tasting food? FYI our campus’ current food service provider is Sodexho’s and their contract is up this semester, so if you would like to taste or have the same delicious experience that I had, get up and say something get involved be confident, you are not alone.
