Marina Wal-Mart cashes in on black Friday shopping

| Hundreds of early risers showed up at the new Marina Wal-Mart with coffee
in one hand and a shopping cart in the other, even though there were no
door prizes to those who came earliest.
The eager holiday shoppers lined the entire parking lot filling every parking space and waited in a peaceful line that took only seven minutes to get through on a 38 degree morning. There was a coffee stand available for customers and three police officers standing by in case eager shoppers got out of hand. The doors opened at 5 a.m. and Wal-Mart employees greeted every customer as they walked through the entrance. Once inside, shoppers remained civil with smiles on their faces. The busiest of departments was by far, electronics. There were special deals on their high definition flat screen televisions that had sizes from ranging from 20 to 42 inches available at bargains between 5 and 11:00 a.m. Half of the carts in the store could be seen carrying one inside along with other huge boxes. People were definitely willing to spend this holiday season. Shoppers are expected to live up to the “black Friday” tradition in which retailers finally get out of the red and into making a profit. Lori Souza of Marina took full advantage of the early sales and said that “they are worth getting up for every year.” Souza came for clothes, jewelry, toys and the 32”LCD HDMI television set, one of the hot items of the morning for $598. The one department that was empty was the home and kitchen area, despite the great deals on sheets, towels, vacuums and a 20 piece Farberware cookware set for $59.92. Couples of all ages were out in full shopping force and plenty of families helped each other gather ideas for one another’s Christmas presents. The Lopez family spent the morning helping their three children, ages 5, 9 and 12, shop for each other and their cousins. “We came to take advantage of the best sales of the year,” Maria Lopes said. The family purchased a compact digital camcorder for $198.74 “to
record all the action of Christmas morning,” Julio Lopez said. Their
children took advantage of the latest DVD movies that are $9.72 each.
