Men’s Basketball Loses Exhibition Against Santa Clara University Broncos

CSU Monterey Bay Men’s Basketball team lost their first of two preseason exhibition games to Santa Clara University (SCU), a member of the NCAA Division I West Coast Conference 49-66.
The Leavey Center was packed as family, friends and fans filled the locale to cheer on their favorite in the non-conference men’s basketball-match up.
Senior Ryan McBride led the Otters with 16 points. junior Augie Johnston trailed with 13 points and Senior DShon Cannon followed with 11 points.
John Bryant led the Broncos and helped Kerry Keating, the new SCU Men’s Basketball coach win his debut game with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Jonathan Gunderson followed with 14 points.
In the first half with 15:22 left to play, CSUMB had a brief 9-8 lead. However, SCU came back 15-8.
The Broncos led 32-18 at halftime. CSUMB charged back and tried to close the gap as the Otters trailed 35-28 with a layup by McBride with 14:13 remaining.
However the closest the Otters came to defeating the Broncos was by 7 points. Santa Clara took a 10 point lead with a 3-pointer by Gunderson with 10:55 left in the game.
SCU headed a 22 point lead with another 3-pointer by Gunderson with 5:25 remaining in the game. The Otters went on a 9-4 run to end the contest.
CSUMB continues their exhibition season against Division I opponent, University of San Diego. The season officially opens for the Otters Nov. 16 against Seattle Pacific.
