Volleyball on a Roll |
Evan FitzGerald, Staff Reporter It seems that the CSU Monterey Bay women's volleyball team can do no wrong, with three consecutive wins at home, one of which landed on senior night the team looks to end their season strong. "Our last 3 wins were great examples of how we earned the right to be successful. Our commitment to our training paid off! The players also took a leap of faith and truly believed they could beat number 23 Chico State-played scrappy, all out and won. I have been pushing them to be risk takers and it is the first time I have seen them completely buy into this," said Jody Garry, head volleyball coach. It takes more then just a solid team to win games, but the determination to give it your all as coach Garry described. With seven seniors leaving this year the team banded together to produce amazing results. The last three games of the season produced some remarkable plays such as Courtney Taubert diving into the Otter bench to save a volley. However, the star of the game was Brittnay Etchings who had 49 kills, 53 digs and seven aces over the three games. "The senior night game against Chico was the best I believe because of just the whole environment was awesome and thrilling to play in. The whole team, coaching staff and fans were all into the game, and the fact that we all wanted that win so badly we all just played our hearts out," said Etchings. For her excellent play, Brittnay Etchings joined Courtney Taubert and Christine Ricketts as players of the week in the CCAA during the season. "I feel so honored to be recognized as CCAA player of the week, the whole team worked very hard. It was a blessing for sure, and I am very thankful," said Etchings
