Alternative rockers MiGGs are playing at the Black Box Cabaret on Thursday Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. complements of the CSU Monterey Bay Business Club.

Business Club president Brandon Wehman believed a free concert would be a great way to show students what the club has to offer.

“The clubs get their funds from the students, I felt that it would be nice to return the gift…in the form of sweet entertainment,” said Wehman.

MiGGs is a California grown alternative rock band with a sound similar to that of Matchbox 20 or the Foo Fighters. Vocals/Guitarist Don Miggs, Bassist Michael Lombardo, and Drummer Brian Totton, have joined forces on MiGGs’ most recent tour, to bring CSUMB a fusion of both heavy and acoustic rock tunes.

Influenced by a plethora of classic and new rock music, MiGGs puts major personality into each song. Brought to fame with soulful vocals and hard guitar riffs on their first album “Insomnia” (2005), their new album “Late nights and early Mornings” (2007), reflects a more peaceful and mellow sound.

Like many bands, MiGGs has not been without its struggles. They have been through various record labels and late nights and traveling have driven previous members in different directions. Don Miggs referred to the band as a “collective,” as it has evolved through these struggles, both musically and emotionally.

Don Miggs reflected on his recent marriage, band success, and disclosed the titles of his upcoming albums “Unraveled” and “Wide Awake.”

“My album titles mirror what I go through when I write,” said Don Miggs, referring to his transition from hard and heavy rock to an acoustic and mellow sound.

MiGGs does not discriminate in venue size. From coffee houses to stadiums, the venue has never been too small. They believe that it is energy, not size that matters with a crowd.

“I play for four people as hard as I would for 36 thousand” said Don Miggs.

MiGGs is currently finishing up their American tour. They plan to tour overseas in March 2008, starting in Scandinavia, then on to Sweden, Japan, and Australia. Visit their website, miggsband.com, or their myspace to listen to some of their music. MiGGs is also available to download on itunes and Rhapsody.
