That plastic water bottle belongs in the recycling, not the trash. Here at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB), campus leaders have made quite an effort, taking the environment into consideration while running a university. For the third year in a row, CSUMB has been awarded a spot on the Princeton Guide for being a green campus.

Imagine being a volunteer at Dorothy’s Place washing the feet of homeless people. The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) on campus, with some students from University California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School, committed themselves to that service this semester.

The good news is that Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) students and neighbors are surrounded by a National Monument: Fort Ord, who plays host to a paradise for hikers and bikers with 540-acres of forest, meadows, trails, clean air and wildlife. The bad news? Access is limited and, if private developers get their way, the woodlands and recreational areas will be almost restricted to the public.

Panelist and visitors lined the stage at the Alumni and Vistors Center hoping to create discussion and awareness around issues of race and disability. The Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Health and Wellness Services, Otter Cross Cultural Center, and the Student Fee Advisory Committee sponsored the Diversity Dialogue event, creating opportunity to examine ways race, white privilege, and racism impact inclusion and diversity issues. Keep in mind that, like race, the subject of disability is also socially and culturally constructive.

The rates of Cal State Monterey Bay’s (CSUMB), rates have not changed in quite some time. Because of this, controversy still remains although CSUMB has decided to lower the costs back to the $1,210 rate, for one year, for students who are current residents at East Campus.
