In what was supposed to be a review of President Ochoa’s job performance became a public forum praising Ochoa and Chancellor Timothy White, as well as criticizing Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) President Ochoa and Cal State University (CSU) policies.

Why did the turkey cross the road? This is not a chicken joke; it’s the call of nature: mating season is here and wild turkeys of the Fort Ord woodlands are totally into it.

Panelist and visitors lined the stage at the Alumni and Vistors Center hoping to create discussion and awareness around issues of race and disability. The Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Health and Wellness Services, Otter Cross Cultural Center, and the Student Fee Advisory Committee sponsored the Diversity Dialogue event, creating opportunity to examine ways race, white privilege, and racism impact inclusion and diversity issues. Keep in mind that, like race, the subject of disability is also socially and culturally constructive.

A dim-lit Black Box Cabaret was the setting for this year’s MENding Monologues, the second at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Throughout the 90-minute period the student actors would bring the audience on an emotional roller coaster covering a broad array of topics: love, vaginas, baths, men, women, masturbation, and most importantly, violence.

With water dripping from her hair, senior water polo player Alex Tyrrell, senior, ENVS, sat down to talk to the Otter Realm. Tyrell has a bittersweet feeling about graduating and moving on, but she will never forget the life lessons at CSUMB.
Growing up in Wildomar, it was triple-digit summers that kept Tyrell in the pool. Her love for swimming soon turned into a passion for water polo, which she started getting into in high school, claiming the sport was more interactive and fun.

Remember how I said I was really tired in the last editorial? Well, that definitely showed in our last issue. With error upon error, we really needed to take a step back and look at how we are functioning as a team and what necessary steps we should be taking to make sure things go right, every time.

The rates of Cal State Monterey Bay’s (CSUMB), rates have not changed in quite some time. Because of this, controversy still remains although CSUMB has decided to lower the costs back to the $1,210 rate, for one year, for students who are current residents at East Campus.

At times golf can be considered an individual sport. But not for this Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) golf team. Through the leadership of the older players this team has come together with great fashion. With this cohesion the team has not finished outside of the top five the entire year. Along with all their other accomplishment this year’s team has been ranked fourth in the nation.

“Get down and give me 15! Keep your butt down! Don’t stop running! Are you giving up?” As if running uphill in sand and getting drenched in mud was not enough, Drill Sergeants shouted words of motivation throughout the 5.6 mile run through Fort Ord. Some were encouraging and others were demanding, but it aligned well with the rest of the Big Sur Mud Run.

1. What should the top priorities of a college athlete be? The top priorities of a student- athlete should be just that: studies and athletics. Of course family and friends are important, but all student-athletes make a commitment to the school and their team. Being a great student-athlete is all about time management and knowing how to balance school and sports.
